Anish, a non-resident Indian (NRI) working as a finance manager in the Gulf, and his wife Preeja, a homemaker, chose a 15-cent plot adjacent to their ancestral house at Kodungoor in Kottayam to build their dream home. Anish, who was familiar with the latest architectural trends abroad, shared his ideas with designer Sreekanth Pangappadu.

The designer has created a house blending modern style with Kerala’s traditional architecture. For instance, the roofing pattern suits the state’s distinct climate while the north-east façade of the kitchen resembles a European house. By increasing the elevation and adding bay windows, the exterior has acquired a grand look. Moreover, truss roofing above a flat roof gives extra utility space on the upper floor for the 2,600-square feet house.

According to the owners, the design of the house fulfills all their wishes.
