Thanveer, who has lived abroad for years, wished to build a house of his own when he returned to his hometown in Koyilandi, Kozhikode, Kerala, After a long search, he purchased a 5 cent plot. He then approached noted architect Raoof to design a double storey house with all the modern amenities. Moreover, Thanveer wanted a beautiful house without burning a hole in his pocket.
There is a sit-out, living and dining areas, kitchen with a work area, four bedrooms, upper living area and a balcony in this house that is designed in 1900 sq ft area.
Flat roof box structure has been adopted to smartly utilize the space in a small plot. The exteriors do not feature any brighter hues or over-the-top designer claddings. The double height window adds a classy charm to the simple elevation. Besides, this brings lots of fresh air and sunshine into the house. The balcony, meanwhile, has a glass ceiling.
An in – built bench has been arranged in the sit-out. An elegant L-shaped couch adorns the living area. The double-height ceiling makes the spaces look incredibly vaster. Marble has been paved on the floor in the ground floor. Meanwhile, vitrified tiles are used for flooring on the upper floor. The interiors are designed without too many partitions, to make it look and feel spacious.
The simple dining table can easily host up to six guests. Meanwhile, the glass top adds sheen to it. The wash area has been arranged close to the dining area.
The kitchen cabinets are done in marine plywood. The counter top, meanwhile, has been paved with granite. An adjacent work area completes the kitchen area.
There are two bedrooms each on both floors. The bath-attached bedrooms have in – built wardrobes as well. The bay windows are the highlight of the master bedroom. This area is used as an office space as well.
An incinerator has been installed as effective waste disposal is always a challenge in smaller plots. Besides, well recharging facilities too is arranged by collecting the rainwater that falls from the roof.
The construction of this amazing abode, including the structure and furnishing, was completed on a moderate budget of Rs 34.5 lakh. It indeed is impressive as it would have at least cost Rs 40 lakh to construct a house like this, considering the current rates of building materials.
Among the many factors that helped in keeping a check on the expenses, wisely utilizing the spaces by reducing the area in square feet played a pivotal role. Light points are directly installed by avoiding false ceiling. Moreover, the interiors are furnished minimally by reducing the use of timber.
