Keralites have a special liking for independent houses surrounded by land where they can experience the feel of earth. However, adapting to the changing times, high-rise apartments too have become popular in the state. A flat offers advantages such as security and convenience.
The latest trend is to arrange facilities similar to an independent house in the small space available in a flat. A good example is Subhash Vincent’s apartment at Kaloor in Kochi. The highlight of the apartment is maximum utilization of space in an open style.
The area of the flat is 1,830 sq ft which covers the foyer, formal living space, dining area, kitchen, three bedrooms and two balconies. Some improvisations have been introduced to make the interiors interesting. For instance, the metal work on the wall of the formal living area.
Privacy has been ensured wherever it is necessary. This includes providing a glass partition to seclude the wash area behind the family living-cum-dining area.
Another aspect making the interiors attractive is the colour of the paints. Light shades have been used everywhere, instead of dark tones that are a strain on the eyes.
Adding to the beauty of the apartment is the furniture made of plywood laminate. On the floor, vitrified tiles are laid. Gypsum ceiling and warm tone lights make the interiors even more pleasant.
Kitchen
The kitchen area is designed with a focus on storage space and utility. While nano white is laid on the counter, there are facilities like work area and common toilet also attached to the kitchen.
Bedrooms
Storage is given sufficient importance in the bedrooms too, for which full-height wardrobes are arranged in all the three bedrooms.
The master bedroom has wooden flooring. There is a dressing area and attached bathroom in all the bedrooms. The headboard of the bedroom has been texture painted to highlight it. This has made the space attractive. Another feature of the bedroom is the balcony opening to the sights outside.
Overall, the apartment reflects a beauty that is based on simplicity.
