The field of housing and construction have been witnessing a gamut of revolutionary changes and innovations of late. A novel technology experimented recently in Palakkad, Kerala is an example. The house constructed on volumetric technology by a Dubai-based company sits beautifully on the banks of Yakkara River.
Different units consisting rooms or parts of rooms are called modules and these modules are made in a factory by the time the foundation of the house is readied at the site for the house. These are then transported to the location and assembled on the foundation using a crane.
The modules are then locked by a specially designed locks. The exterior of the walls are made of cement boards and gypsum is used in the interiors. The wiring and plumbing are done between both the sheets of the wall which are 10 inches apart. The modules have spaces to install windows and doors as well. However, that would be done only after all the modules are in place.
In the second stage of the construction, a roof made of iron sheets and concrete would be done. Experts say that this roof is strong enough to carry another floor over it.
Manufacturers can add on facilities as per the preferences of the customers. The construction of this house would cost Rs 1800 per square feet. Though it is a bit expensive, the building can be completed in a much lesser time. Another advantage of these houses is that they can be easily dismantled and moved over to another location if needed.
