The house that’s ship shape!

The double-storied house built for Dubai-based businessman Basheer and family in Perinthalmanna is different in quite many ways.

Step onto the balcony and shout “ship ahoy”. Don’t ask why, because the house looks like a ship and a quaint one at that.

What the family wanted was a real holiday home to chill out on their limited trips to their native place. Privacy and the need for retreating from prying eyes were the demands designer Sajish had to meet. The house meets these commitments in full.

What the family wanted was a real holiday home to chill out on their limited trips to their native place.

The structure stands literally elevated atop a hilly patch which slopes up from road-level. If needed, the land could have been leveled out. But the elevation heightens the ambiance of the place with the lush greenery of the surrounding paddy fields packing in a serene mood.

The L- shaped elevation of the structure is meant to safeguard the privacy of the house. Each room has its private space and nothing outside intrudes into that space. The roof in double height sets off the feel of space and airiness.

All rooms have separate and distinct designs with mood lighting enhancing their identity.

The custom-made furniture in the living space has been set to suit the colorful theme of the room. An eight-seater dining table looks cozy and comfortable. A courtyard near the dining area has solid wood for its base. With a pebble court and LEDs around, it’s a patch of brightness which lights up the dining space. One can step right out to the patio through the sliding door beside the courtyard.

The sun rays stream in through the glass pergola atop the courtyard and the UVPC doors. The courtyard is at its brightest by night and emits a glow all through the living space.

The couple has three children and each room has been designed to their taste. There are four bedrooms, two on each floor. All have attached bathrooms.

Paving tiles in the yard give the place a neat look. The white and gray of the house and the green landscape make it picturesque.
