American socialite, actress and business woman, Kim Kardashian, as always, knows well how to turn heads at any gathering and she made no mistake at the Anant Ambani-Radhika Merchant wedding ceremony held at Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai on Friday.
Apart from being the cynosure of eyes at the event Kim Kardashian also made headlines by wearing a dazzling red lehenga. Red colour is traditionally reserved for brides in Hindu weddings in northern parts of India. Her glittering ensemble, adorned with sequins, fringe tassels, and intricate beadwork, sparked a social media buzz.
In Hindu weddings, in North India, red is usually the exclusive domain of the bride, much like white is for Christian weddings. Guests invariably avoid wearing red, lest that would be upstaging the bride.
However, Kim's bold fashion choice did not overshadow the event. Indian celebrity brides in recent times have been moving away from traditional red and are opting for pastel colours instead.
Notably, Radhika Merchant wore a red and white lehenga designed by Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla for her wedding with Anant Ambani on July 12. The choice paid homage to the 'Panetar,' a traditional wedding outfit for brides in Gujarat, typically in red and white or maroon and off-white hues. These colours are symbolic of Goddess Shakti and her power, making Radhika's outfit both culturally significant and stunningly beautiful.
Kim Kardashian and Khloe Kardashian were welcomed by Nita Ambani who was present at the entrance of the venue. Joining the Kardashian sisters was jewellery designer Lorraine Schwartz who crafted some of the exuberant jewellery pieces of Nita Ambani and Radhika Merchant for the pre-wedding festivities.
