Bengaluru: Bengaluru's teenaged girls and kids are opting for 80s style dress "lehnaga choli", Samudrika Designer Studios founder and Chief Creative Officer, Meenu Saravanan said.
Based on an internet research, Samudrikas Designer studios launched a traditional Indian wear half sarees to attract youngsters during Diwali season.
Meenu Saravanan told IANS that traditional Indian Wear is making a comeback in the city as many youngsters look for a change.
"Fashion tastes and trends change frequently than one can imagine. We keep an watch on the internet and based on youngsters' demand the studio releases its patterns on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter timelines," she said.
Saravanan said that her business has drastically fallen by at least 50 per cent as compared to last year's Diwali season, due to pandemic but still the studio was able to book a decent number of orders.
"With several youngsters inquiring about half sarees on the internet, during this season, we have bookings for more than 25 designer half sarees for kids and about 20 half sarees for adults," she added.
According to the , half sarees are popularly known as Lehnga Choli-Daman in Hindi while in South Indian's it is known as Langa Davani. "Although it is known in North India, it is more popular in South India. In Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana it is very popular. Especially during festivals, every woman would like to wear it once in her life," she said.
According to Saravanan, half saree is a very easy changeover between the childhood skirts and grown-up saree.
"The USP about this dress is that this suits anyone even with minimal jewellery. Besides, it suits any complexion," she added.
She said that half sarees typically have broad shrine borders and ladies love to pair their rich Jewellery with this traditional clothing.
"This dress can be stitched with a variety of skirt designs like flared, spreading ones, gathered, pleated ones or floral designs," she claimed.
Saravanan said that the lehenga or the skirt part of these half sarees looks very attractive with broad borders and floral designed half saree is also preferred in wedding functions held at day time.
"Based on individual's taste of style, one can choose different coloured skirt, blouse and dupatta or even can carry a gorgeous monochrome appearance with all three being with same colour and pattern," she explained.
