Not glimmer, but drama is what the latest trend is, say fashionistas. Whether it's a carpet event or cocktail party, designers are throwing to the winds the concept of glitz in sartorial taste.
Dresses which blend frills and flounces have already caught attention at the runways at international level. Such dramatic party wears are sensational among youngsters. While the blend of frills and flounces lent a fairy look to the wearer, without much embellishments, it can also make for a rich ensemble.
Exactly this aspect was the highlight of the dress worn by actress Saniya Iyappan at the recent Vanitha Film Awards. The attire with frills and flounce had the ombre finish. Each of the frills were segmented as separate layers in the skirt to provide a wavy effect.
The skirt worn by the 'Queen' fame was finished in six days. The flamingo hue was yet another feature of the lehanga. A belt had also been made part of the attire giving it an Indo-western look.
Poornima Indrajith who designed the outfit says that the dramatic layers and flounces have been in vogue in the beginning of 2019. "This has been the trend on the runway both at Indian and international fashion scenario. The fabric manipulation techniques like frills and flounce are gaining popularity. This can bring about a dramatic element," she says.
Meanwhile, she also cautions that such look may not suit all those who appear in it. “No many would like it either," Poornima says. If not a dramatic person, the design can be done on the border of the blouse or on any area of the skirt, she says.
"Saniya's dress from Prana's Spring 19 collections is out-of-the-box dramatic," she adds.
Prana is actress-turned-designer Poornima Indrajith's design house located in Panampilly Nagar in Kochi. She is the wife of prominent Malayalam actor Indrajith.
