Kalpetta: After Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'communal' remarks against Congress chief Rahul Gandhi's decision to contest from Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency in Kerala apart from his traditional Amethi in Uttar Pradesh, the BJP has gone one step ahead now to target the Congress president.
The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) will now rope in 1000 women from Amethi, which is at present represented by Rahul in the Lok Sabha, and bring them to Wayanad to campaign against the Congress chief.
According to sources in BJP, the team of 1000 women from Amethi will land in Wayanad next week.
NDA sources said 1000 women from various parts of Amethi would travel to Wayanad to spread word about the pathetic plight of Amethi, from where Gandhi has been an MP for a decade.
BDJS state general secretary Sinil Mundappally said the women from Amethi would be able to narrate the ineffectiveness of the Gandhis in Amethi.
"For a decade, Rahul Gandhi represents Amethi constituency. This could be the same fate for Wayanad also. In Amethi, out of the five Assembly constituencies, four are being represented by the BJP and one is with the SP. The only development in that area is whatever done by the BJP MLAs there. Politically speaking, Mayawati and Akhilesh might ditch Congress as both of them have an eye on prime ministership. So, the situation is not safe for him in Amethi," he said.
The women will visit all the colonies and important centres in Wayanad and speak. The NDA will also arrange translators to reach out to maximum number of voters in Wayanad. BDJS president Thushar Vellappally is the NDA candidate from Wayanad.
Rahul Gandhi filed his nomination papers from Wayanad last week and held a massive roadshow along with his sister Priyanka Gandhi.
On his part, Rahul Gandhi took five men from Wayanad to Amethi and they accompanied him when he filed the nomination papers.
Wayanad district panchayat vice-president A Prabhakaran, Malappuram DCC vice-president advocate Babu Mohana Kurup, Porur natives K Sunil Kumar, BM Jamnas and Oorngatteeri native K Anoop reached Amethi on Tuesday and accompanied Rahul to the collectorate where he filed the papers. After this, all of them ill join the campaign for Gandhi in various parts of Amethi.
After Rahul declared to fight the polls from Wayanad also, Modi at a rally in Maharashtra's Nanded said: "Congress ke naamdaar ne microscope le kar bharat mein ek aisi seat khoji hai jahan par vo muqabala karne ki taakat rakh sake. Seat bhi aisi jahan par desh ki majority minority mein hai. (The Congress dynasty went out with a microscope to look for a safe seat to contest and selected a seat where the majority is in minority)."
