Jisha murder: Ameerul's phone was loaded with porn

Perumbavoor: Ameerul Islam, the labourer accused of murdering Jisha, is a Bangladeshi who had migrated to the tea estates of Assam, the police suspect.

Islam was cornered by the Kerala Police as he was leaving a vehicle factory in Kanchipuram. The 5.6 foot tall well-built man was pinned down by three officers when he tried to flee.

He gave 15 different explanations for the murder. He even feigned ignorance of Hindi at one point and remained silent for a while.

Phone loaded with porn

Islam’s phone was a crucial piece of evidence that led the police to him. He had changed his number many times but kept the phone as it was loaded with porn clips.

He got married as a minor. At 20, he married again. He had lived with his Bengali wife for a while in Perumbavoor.

He had known Jisha for almost a year. He confessed to stalking her many times and hiding near her house for an opportunity to make an advance. He said he was there even the day before the murder on April 28.

On the day of the murder, he went to Jisha’s house again after drinking and watching porn.

At Kanchipuram

Islam joined the factory at Sinkidipakkam in Kanchipuram on June 10 with a salary of Rs 8,000. He believed the police would never get to him.

The breakthrough came when he called his friends at Kuruppampadi near Perumbavoor to know about the developments. The police waited for him at various places in Kanchipuram for two days, observing the labourers who walked out of the factory after each shift.

When he came out in the evening, a policeman called him by his name, and he turned back.

The police, however, kept the news under wraps pending the DNA results. Islam’s DNA was checked against the sample found on Jisha’s dress. The result was received in a single day thanks to the facilities set up at the Forensic Laboratory in Thiruvananthapuram.
