Thiruvananthapuram: The highlight of the upcoming budget could be a comprehensive package for rebuilding the flood-torn state. A special package is likely to be announced by Finance Minister Thomas Isaac as he presents this year’s state budget on Thursday.
Issac hopes to generate an extra income of Rs 500 crore by levying an additional cess of one per cent over the Goods and Services Tax (GST) in this regard.
He told Manorama News that fuel and liquor taxes and stamp duties will not be increased this year. Instead, tax arrears will be collected to increase the income. Arrears will be collected from around 8 lakh people who had evaded taxes by showing a less amount as fair value of land, he added.
