Kannur: The group dance event, which started late in the evening Friday got over only Saturday morning and many of the participants had droopy eyes when they went on stage.
Meanwhile, Sacred Heart School in Thrissur who got first prize in group dance, has another story to tell. Till the last minute, the team was not sure whether their friend who got sick right before the event would be able to dance. The first prize would have gone to someone else, if she couldn't.
However, their choreographer, Jobin George, stood by them, with words of encouragement; and success followed.
For Jobin, it was a double win this time as the third prize for the event was for another team (Wayanad) trained by him. This is nothing usual for him as his students have won prizes in many events like folk dance, mono act and the like.
Jobin and his brother, Sabu George, have been training dancers for the past 15 years. The brothers took almost one year to train the students of Sacred Heart. "They did a great job today even after waiting for a long time. It’s really tough for them to wait for hours but they made it," said Jobin.
The participants were too happy and proud to talk about their beloved dance master. "He never scolds us; instead, helps us learn from our mistakes," said Hena Kurien, one of his students.
Apparently, Kalolsavam is not a new stage for this young man, who was a Kalaprathibha at 2002 Kalolsavam. His main items then were folk dance, drums, ottanthulal, mono act, and mimicry.
Jobin has also handled choreography in a few movies, viz., Oru Muthassi Katha, Om Shanti Oshana and Ann Maria Kalipilanu. An assistant director to Priyadarshan, Jobin will soon be seen onscreen with Dulquer Salmaan in an upcoming movie.
Jobin and Sabu is settled in Kozhikode have a dance center called Jobz and Sabz Dance Company.
