Chennai: Even as AIADMK leaders urged Tamil Nadu chief minister J. Jayalalithaa's confidante Sasikala Natarajan to take the key post in party, the former CM's niece, Deepa Jayakumar, Sunday expressed her willingness to enter the political arena.
"If the people of Tamil Nadu want me to join politics, I am ready for it," she was quoted as saying by Manorama News Sunday.
A delegation of AIADMK led by party's presidium chairman E. Madhusudhanan Saturday met Sasikala at Poes Garden, Jayalalithaa's residence, and urged her to take up the general secretary position left vacant by Jaya.
A section of AIADMK supporters had reportedly voiced their discontent over Sasikala taking charge of the party. It remains to be seen whether these people would support Deepa, who is Jayalaithaa's brother's daughter.
The former CM's niece was denied permission to visit Jayalalithaa while she was undergoing treatment at Apollo Hospital.
