Thodupuzha: The National Investigation Agency brought Subahani Haja Moideen to Thodupuzha for collecting evidences related to his activities. Subahani is believed to be an IS activist who had returned home after receiving weapons training in foreign camps.
Subahani was taken to his house at about 11.30 am by a five-member NIA team led by SP Shaukat Ali. They went in while Subahani was asked to wait in a vehicle outside his house. Then two brothers of the accused were called and information was collected from them. His brothers claimed that they did not have any connection with the accused for the past three years. The team also visited the room that was used by Subahani when he stayed in the house.
The NIA also collected more information from his family which had migrated to Thodupuzha from Tirunelveli for expanding their textile business. Meanwhile, as people started mobbing the vehicle in which Subahani was seated, the vehicle was moved into a nearby compound of a business establishment and gates were closed. Further formalities were completed in the presence of the accused in the house.
When he was brought out from the house, BJP-RSS activists shouted slogans against him. As there were only four policemen to control the crowd, NIA officials had a tough time taking him back.
Meanwhile it has been alleged that the police failed to provide adequate security to Subahani when he was taken to his house for interrogation. The police said that it did not receive any formal request for security from the NIA. Top officials said that the NIA gave them only a five-minute notice and so an SI and other officials in the control room were assigned to provide security cover. A police team that was sent to provide extra cover was late to the scene and the NIA had already left by then, the local police said.
