Thiruvananthapuram: Pampering the taste buds of IFFK delegates are some prisoner chefs from Poojappura Central Prison serving chappatis, chicken curry and beef delicacies to film buffs at IFFK.
The new facility of selling variety of food items made by the prisoners was started on Monday for the hungry delegates running from one theater to another after watching movies.
Delegates can relish the dishes from the counter on Tagore theater premise at a nominal rate. The menu includes chappati, vegetable and chicken curry, Biriyani, Beef Piratiyathu, Nai choru (Ghee rice), chili chicken, egg curry, and Kappa (Tapioca) and fish curry.
“We have just started the counter here by the initiative of DGP (Prisons), R Sreelekha IPS and superintendent S Santhosh. A packet of 5 chappatis and chicken curry costs Rs 30, and veg combo costs Rs 20. We hope it will be helpful for the delegates to fill their tummy before hurrying up for the next film,” said Joseph John, deputy superintendent of police.
The counters will be open every day from 9 am to 9 pm. The prison officials have arranged breakfast, lunch, and dinner for the delegates.
The ‘freedom food’ made by the inmates of the prison was an instant hit when it was launched few years back. Though the production of chappatis was made on an experimental basis, it was a grand success in the capital city.
The prison officials expect the same here at IFFK.
