FIFA U-17 World Cup: Ghana beat Colombia 1-0; Kiwis hold Turkey

New Delhi: African challengers Ghana began their FIFA U-17 World Cup campaign with a 1-0 win over Colombia in a Group A game here on Friday.

Sadiq Ibrahim netted the winner for the Black Stars in the 39th minute.

Turkey and New Zealand played out a 1-1 draw in the Group B opener at the D.Y. Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.

Ahmed Kutucu scored the opening goal of the championship with a bullet header off a corner kick in the 18th minute.

Captain Max Mata drew level for the Kiwis in the 58th. However, the game ended on a sour note for Mata as he was shown a second yellow card in injury time after a nasty tackle and had to leave the field.
