Why not try an utterly delicious and hearty veg-non-veg combo dish at home this Christmas? Brinjal-beef ularthiyathu is a flavourful and spicy South Indian dish that combines tender pieces of beef with brinjal (eggplant). Here’s the recipe:
Ingredients
½ kg beef
1 raw banana
2 big onions
1 brinjal
2 green chillies
Chilly powder (one teaspoon + two teaspoons)
1 teaspoon coriander powder
Turmeric powder (1/4 + 1/4 teaspoon)
Cumin seeds powder (1/2 teaspoon +1/2 teaspoon)
Salt (as required)
Oil (as required)
5 tablespoons coconut milk
½ teaspoon moong dal
Curry leaves
1 teaspoon meat masala
½ teaspoon mustard
Preparation
Put the beef into a mixer jar and mince well
Shift the meat into a pressure cooker and add 1 teaspoon chilli powder, 1 teaspoon coriander powder, ½ teaspoon cumin seeds powder, ½ teaspoon turmeric powder, a pinch of salt, and 2 tablespoons of water Cook well
Fry the raw banana and brinjal pieces by coating it with a mix of salt and turmeric powder
Season some mustard in a frying pan with two tablespoons of oil and add in moong dal
Put the onions, green chillies, and curry leaves into this and saute till the mix turns golden brown
Mix the remaining spices, including chilly powder, meat masala, cumin seeds powder, and turmeric powder, and continue to saute till the fresh smell goes away
Blend it with the cooked meat and then with the fried brinjal and raw banana
Pour in coconut milk and keep the pan closed with a lid for five minutes
Let the curry simmer well and switch off the flame
