The sweet and sour, buttery Shreekhand, a North Indian dessert, has many fans in Kerala too. If you love this delicious thick yoghurt flavoured with saffron, cardamom and more, you can try making a simple version of it at home for this Deepavali. The weight watchers among you should portion control a bit but hey, what's Deepavali without a little indulgence? Here's the recipe:
Ingredients
2 cups fresh curd
1 cup powdered sugar
1/2 cup powdered cardamom
5 pieces each of badam and cashew
1 banana, cut into 5 thin pieces
1 or 2 pinches of saffron
Preparation
Pour the fresh curd into a strainer cloth and weigh down the muslin cloth until its water content is completely removed
Shift the drained curd in a bowl and mix it together with the sugar, cardamom, and saffron
Stir it well using a hand beater or whisk
Keep the mix in a refrigerator for two hours and serve it garnished with cherry, cashew, and badam
Sreekhand can be made even more delicious by adding apple, sliced into pieces, or orange pods
