Sundal, made of black chana, is a popular offering aka prasadam in many temples during the Navaratri period. The simple snack that can be made at home is also a protein-rich meal that can be prepared for fun snacking on other days. Here's the recipe for sundal or chundal that can be prepared easily if you have some soaked chana at home.
Ingredients
1 cup black chana washed well and soaked for eight hours
3 tbsp coconut oil
1/2 tsp mustard seeds
3 red chillies split into halves
2 sprigs of curry leaves
1 pinch asafoetida
1/2 tsp chilly powder
1/4 finely chopped or scrapped coconut pieces

Preparation
Cook the chana in a pressure cooker for about 6 or 7 whistles, it shouldn't get mashed
Drain the water out of the cooked chana
Heat oil in a pan, splutter mustards in it
Add the red chillies and after a while, the curry leaves
Add coconut and saute for a bit
Once the coconut is roasted, add the chana
Add asafoetida and chilly powder and mix with the chana
Serve hot or cold depending on your preference
