Classic prawns theeyal

Delicious prawns theeyal cooked in flavoursome coconut gravy is an iconic Keralite dish that never goes out of trend. Here is the recipe.

Ingredients
½ kg prawns
15 shallots
1 ½ tsp ginger - garlic paste
2 green chillies
1 onion
1 tomato
½ tsp red chilli powder
½ tsp pepper powder
1 ½ tsp coriander powder
½ tsp fennel powder
½ tsp fenugreek
Lemon sized ball of tamarind

Preparation
Marinate the prawns with chilli powder, ¼ tsp turmeric powder and salt as required
Keep it aside for half an hour
Heat oil in a pan
Fry the marinated prawns on low flame
Meanwhile, heat oil in another pan
Sauté the shallots, ginger – garlic paste and green chillies
Add the tomato
Dry roast the coconut and then grind it smoothly
Into the sautéed ingredients add chilli powder, pepper powder, coriander powder, fennel and fenugreek
Add the coconut paste too
Now add the tamarind water
Add the fried prawns
Cook on low flame until the oil separates
Enjoy the delicious prawns theeyal with rice or chapathi.
