Idli is a regular breakfast item on the menu in most South Indian homes. Sambar and coconut chutney are the classic combinations with the soft and fluffy idli. Ingredients
½ cup idli batter
1 onion
1 tbsp crushed ginger – garlic
1 tbsp chilli powder
½ tbsp coriander powder
¼ tsp turmeric powder
1 tsp garam masala
Curry leaves
Salt as required
1 tbsp oil
Preparation
Pressure cook the chickpeas with some salt and turmeric powder
Heat oil in a pan
Sauté the crushed ginger – garlic
Now add the onions and sauté until they are brown in colour
Add the chilli powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder and garam masala
Sauté until the raw smell of the powders is gone
Into it add the cooked chickpeas
Give everything a good mix
Pour some idli batter into the holes of an idli vessel
Place the chickpeas masala on top of the batter
Pour some more batter over it
Cook in steam
Tasty chickpeas idlis are ready!
