Ingredients
500 gms prawns/shrimp
½ grated coconut
3-4 dried chillies
1 ½ tbsp coriander seeds
¾ tsp mustard seeds
1 tsp pepper corns
5-6 fenugreek seeds
10-12 shallots
1 small piece ginger (finely chopped)
½ tsp turmeric powder
1 small piece tamarind (soaked in water)
Curry leaves
Salt as required
Oil as required
Water as required
Preparation
Dry roast the grated coconut, coriander seeds, dried chillies, pepper corns and fenugreek until they turn dark brown and fragrant
Grind these into fine powder without adding water first
Then add some water and grind again
Heat oil and splutter mustard seeds
Sauté shallots, curry leaves, ginger and dried chillies
Meanwhile, clean and devein the shrimp/prawns
Add the cleaned prawns into this sautéed mixture
Add salt, turmeric powder and some water as well
Cook the prawns with the lid on
Add the ground coconut mixture when the prawns is nicely cooked
Allow the gravy to boil
Pour the tamarind water into the boiling gravy
Give everything a good mix
Cook for some more time before turning off the flame
