Flan, or crème caramel is a custard pudding relished all around the world. Unlike other baked desserts, flan is easy to prepare with minimal ingredients. The rich milk dish is cooked in a bain-marie, or what know as water-bath technique. It is then given the glazing finish with caramelized sugar. It can be served with fruits or ice cream.
Ingredients
3 eggs, well beaten and sieved
1 cup milk
1 cup condensed milk
1 cup cream
1 tsp lemon juice and zest
1 cup sugar
1/2 tsp vanilla essence
Preparation
Preheat the oven at 180 degrees
Heat a pan and pour sugar into it
Melt it till the sugar turns golden brown
Pour it into a baking pan greased with butter
Spread it evenly on the pan
Mix milk, eggs, condensed milk and cream together in a bowl
Add vanilla essence and lemon juice to it
Pour this mixture into the previously caramelized sugar
Pour water into a bigger baking pan
Place the smaller pan within it
Bake at 180 degrees for 30 minutes
Take the pan out
Place a plate over the baking pan and flip the flan
Melt sugar in a pan to prepare the garnish
Decorate the flan using this caramelized sugar
Refrigerate it and serve
