Only a few days are left for the Eid al-Fitr celebrations. With Eid just round the corner, women are busy shopping for all they need to make a splash on that special day. It is also the time when the elders come out with their time-tested recipes. Pathiris, parottas, biryanis and meats are in the queue waiting for expert hands to knead, chop and stew.

The place to head to is Malabar, unmistakably. If you’re not up to it, try these lip-smacking goodies that are sure to be a part of the Eid spread. Here we go with kunji pathiri.

Ingredients
200 gm rice flour
300 gm beef
2 cups coconut scraped
150 gm shallots
1 tsp cumin
1 tbsp red chilli powder
1 tsp turmeric
1 tbsp coriander powder
5 dry red chillies
2 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
7 green chillies
2 tomatoes
1 tbsp garam masala
½ tbsp mustard 
2 sprigs of curry leaves
3 tbsp salt
2 lemon

Preparation
Mix rice flour, scraped coconut, cumin, chopped shallots and salt in hot water.
Make small flat breads ( pathiris) out of this dough and steam them.
Marinate and cook beef with red chilli powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder, garam masala, salt and lemon extract.
Fry dry red chillies, chopped shallots, scraped coconut and coriander powder and grind in a mixer grinder.
In a pan, saute tomatoes, shallots, ginger-garlic paste, chopped green chillies, turmeric powder and garam masala. 
Add in the beef.
Allow it to simmer for a time and then add the ground masala to it.
Splutter the mustard seeds and add green chillies, curry leaves and shallots to it. 
Mix with the beef. 
Add the steamed pathiris and mix well.
Kunji pathiris are ready!
