Kottayam: The Mahatma Gandhi University's Arts Festival is more than just a platform for showcasing talent; it's a vibrant celebration of love and camaraderie. Amal Raj, a former university union chairman, was thrilled as the youth festival returned to Kottayam, his hometown, this year. Despite no longer being a student, Amal found a way to immerse himself in the festivities. Amal set up a stall at Kottayam's CMS College ground, one of the venues, offering refreshing “kulukki sarbath” to both participants and the audience.

In 2019-20, Amal held the position of MG University's union chairman and was the main organizer of the youth festival held in Thodupuzha. Driven by the cherished memories and enduring friendships from that experience, he couldn't resist returning when the festival graced Kottayam.

Amal, a full-time politician and member of the 13th ward of Chembu panchayat, also serves as DYFI's area secretary. Amal is also the chairman of the education standing committee of Chempu Grama Panchayat in Kottayam.
