New Delhi: The Ministry of Health will sanction Rs 4 crore for setting up four model food streets in Kerala. The decision is to initially set up 100 food streets across the country, including the four in Kerala.

For setting up the food streets, Rs 100 crore has been allocated under the National Health Mission. A financial assistance of Rs 1 crore would be given for each of the food streets in Kerala.

Though this would be beneficial for the development of tourism, the main objective is to prevent unhygienic conditions in food streets causing diseases.
