New Delhi: The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has submitted the draft regulations to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare for ensuring the quality of 14 types of specialty breads including the whole wheat and garlic bread.

The proposed guidelines state that there should be at least 2% garlic and other complementing natural ingredients in garlic bread. Meanwhile, the oatmeal bread should contain 15% oats. The whole wheat flour should make up 75% of the flour used for baking whole wheat bread. The multigrain breads need to have at least 20% of grains other than wheat.

Similarly, milk bread should contain at least 6% milk and there should be 5% honey in honey breads. As per the regulations, cheese breads need to have 10% cheese in them. The FSSAI has come up with the revised regulations as it has noticed rampant practices of manufacturers selling products that contain meager quantities of specialty ingredients on high prices.
