Keralites had been creating channels and pages on the popular video sharing platform YouTube to beat the lockdown blues. More than an entertainment, many of them see YouTube as a major source of income. Lots of homemakers have become superstars on the social media, sharing their interesting recipes and unique tips. However, planning, filming and uploading cooking videos in a way to attract viewers are not an easy task. Vidya Raj Narayanan, a resident of Thiruvananthapuram presents her recipes in a very unique way to get the viewers hooked on her videos. Interestingly, the recipes and cooking videos uploaded on her YouTube channel are presented as kathaprasangam and Ottanthullal songs.

Viewers have been flocking into Vidya’s channel Vidz Veg World to see their favourite recipes being presented in a very special way. Vidya started the YouTube channel to get over the boredom during the lockdown period. She credits her husband and kids for their wholehearted support. Vidya presents the videos impromptu without having a prepared script.

Vidya, who has been settled in Thiruvananthapuram for the last 11 years, narrates the recipe in the unique slang of her hometown Payyannur. A fabulous tailor, Vidya had won many prizes at various art festivals and was the kalathilakam at the Samskrithotsavam when she was a class seven student. Vidya says that she often recalls the various items that she had seen at the youth festivals to create her videos. Moreover, Vidya is committed to make the Payyannur slang popular among her viewers.
