When many other businesses struggled to survive during the lockdowns this year, the homely food delivery business saw a sudden surge. Besides your regular food items, nutritious home-cooked become very popular during this time. That is how pandemic brought out the potential of many talented home cooks who had until then cooked for only their families.

Lots of home cooks made their way into the homely food business, promoting it as part of a healthy lifestyle. They claim that no artificial or harmful ingredients are added in the food that is mostly cooked in their own kitchens.

The foodies of Kochi are quite familiar with Instagram handle @recipesbyindu. A native of Elamkulam, Indu comes up with unique recipes that are loved by her followers on social media.

"It is from my mother that I had inherited my passion for cooking. She runs a catering business in Thiruvanathapuram. However, here, I create my own recipes. Besides, I have been active in the business field, running a boutique called Eka Creations for the last eight years. It was only during the lockdown period that my recipes on my Insta became popular. I do online delivery within five kilometres of my house in Elamkulam," says Indu.

Mint biryani

Rich biryani with unique mint flavour is a special recipe that was developed by Indu after experimenting quite a lot with flavours. She began her homely food business by making and delivering the mint biryani. This dish is cooked in olive oil. A plate of mint chicken biryani costs Rs 200. Lots of vegetables are added in this special biryani.

After seeing countless favourable reviews and videos, a firm in Kochi had placed an order for 150 mint biryanis. Indu is happy that she could deliver the food on time even if she had to hire huge vessels to make it.

Besides her masterpiece mint biryani, Indu delivers delicious payasam, sadya (traditional feast), regular meals and varieties of ghee rice as well. Indu plans to open a small kiosk where she can sell her delicious home-cooked food, in November.
