Kozhikode is all set for a feat of a gastronomic kind. To be more precise, it’s gearing up to create a record of sorts with the biggest chappati ever made and make a splash in the Guinness Book of World Records.
With a diameter of six meters and a weight of 175 kg, the super jumbo chappati is being made under the guidance of cartoonist M Dileef.
The 2nd Railway Gate in Kozhikode near Address Mall will be the hub of activity on Thursday when the chappati gets going from 10 am. The whole process will wind up by 5 pm and will be closely monitored by Guinness Book officials.
Close to 2,000 students drawn from city colleges are expected to jump into the chappati fray. The giant tawa was inaugurated by Kerala Assembly Speaker Sreeramakrishnan the other day. As for the rolling pin, it’s six meters long with a diameter (girth) of 12 cm.
Once the chappati is done, it’s going to be fun-time from 5.30 pm to 10 pm with a community dinner, a hearty meal thrown in for all.
M K Raghavan, MP, Razack Karat, MLA, District Collector U V Jose and the Mayor are expected to participate in the events.
The common meal and a gathering of all communities is being organized to commemorate and honor Sahodaran Ayyappan’s commitment to dining together under one roof irrespective of caste, community and creed, said Address Mall MD Sanfeer Kuppurayil and Adukkala MD Mohammed Riyaz.
