Veteran vocalist Biju Nayaranan revealed that veteran singer P Jayachandran who passed away on Thursday had expressed his wish to record songs and sing in movies even when he was hospitalised. Biju, who had sung alongside Jayachandran in countless movies and stage shows said it was impossible to forget the singer’s happy face whenever he visited his home and enjoyed the food cooked by his wife. Biju recalled many fond memories with Jayachandran in a heartfelt note on Instagram.

“I enjoyed a close bond with Jayachandran for years. I sang with Jayettan for the first time in 1993 for the movie ‘Theeram Thedunna Thirakal.’ We then recorded several songs for cassettes and movies. We also sang together in many stage shows, both inside and outside Kerala. He may have appeared as rude and serious in TV shows and interviews, but those who are close to him knows that he is simple-hearted and kind.

Jayettan would contact other singers to appreciate them and their music. I still remember how he reached out to me when Sooryanayi Thazhuki from the movie ‘Sathyam Shivam Sundaram’ got released. He said that I had sung the song beautifully and that it would bring me honours and awards. Recently too, he called me to share his opinion about one of my songs. He visited my house several times and enjoyed the food cooked by my wife. Jayettan also had a humourous and kind side. His style of singing and expressions are a textbook for the new generation singers. They should learn the quality of pronounciation from him,” said Biju.

The singer recalled that Jayachandran had been actively singing until recently. However, he had also been suffering from many health issues for the last one year. “Even while he was hospitalised, he informed the doctors that he wanted to record songs and sing at programmes. Jayettan was busy recording songs until last month, as per his wish,” said Biju Narayanan.
