Prominent singers condoled the demise of P Jayachandran, who died on Thursday at Amala Hospital in Thrissur.
"Deeply saddened to hear about the news of Jayettan’s sudden demise. I started my stage shows by accompanying him to his concert," said K S Chithra.
"We had the privilege of hosting him and spending much time with him at our house. We tried to meet him three times when we were in Thrissur. We were very disappointed as we didn’t get permission to see him. As a devoted Guruvayyrappan Bhakthan, he left us just before Vaikunta Ekadasi. Blessed soul. May he rest in peace in the eternal world. Our heartfelt condolences to the family," said the nightingale of Malayalam music industry in a Facebook post.
"That tune has come to a halt...but through Jayettan's songs, that journey will continue in our hearts... Salute," posted renowned singer Sujatha Mohan on social media.
"I have so many memories with him. He was the role model of our generation, along with Dasettan. This is an immense loss to the music industry," G Venugopal told journalists.
"I can hardly believe this is true. Although we knew he was unwell, we also saw him singing just last year. When we reflect on the songs he has sung, it's clear that he will live on forever through his music," said M G Sreekumar.
"He was the true 'bhava gayakan' – his emotions while singing were unmatched. He had a unique voice, a distinct style, and his own way of expressing music. The first time I met him was when I travelled to Madras to sing for the movie Mazha Peyyunnu Maddalam Kottunnu. From that moment, we formed a deep bond," recalled Sreekumar.
