Legendary singer Asha Bhosle celebrated ‘Bhai Dooj’ with Ashish Shelar, president of the BJP’s Mumbai unit, on Sunday. Observed along with Diwali in several parts in India, Bhai Dooj highlights the bond between a sister and her brother. Bhosle said that she considered Shelar as her brother and applied ‘tilak’ (ornamental mark) on his forehead. She also offered ‘arathi’ (praying with a lighted traditional lamp) to him and presented sweets. Shelar touched Bhosle’s feet seeking her blessings and she obliged.
As per Hindu traditions, Bhai Dooj celebrates the eternal love and relationship between siblings. It is known by different names in various parts of the country. Brothers and sisters observe a fast, conduct religious rituals and exchange gifts on the day. After Bhosle shared her Bhai Dooj celebration with Shelar on social media, many people came to know about the close ties between their families. Both families have celebrated many festivals together. While Bhosle had earlier tied ‘rakhi’ to Shelar, she attended the Vinayaka Chaturthi celebrations at his house along with her granddaughter, singer Zanai Bhosle.
