Rains often induces nostalgia. For singer G Venugopal, the untimely heavy rains that is battering Kerala invoked a memory from 37 years ago, when he sang the track of 'Megham Poothu Thudangi' in Thoovanathumbikal at a recording studio in Chennai. In an emotional note on Instagram, the singer said he had planned to sing the track in a single breath.

“That was the initial plan. I couldn't do it then, so I am attempting it now,” he said. Speaking to Onmanorama, the singer recalled the song, which depicts the blossoming relationship between Clara and Jayakrishnan, was set in the backdrop of the untimely rain in the movie.

'This song, which was sung as a track is a rain drenched and seductive melody on the extraordinary relationship between JK and Clara. Clara is still considered as an icon of love and seduction by the 80s generation. Padmarajan was a writer who could weave unusual tales of love that transcended generations. I remembered the song now due to the untimely rains now in Kerala.

"I was sitting in a recording studio in Chennai. It was a sultry day there. I was supposed to hum the track, but when Dasettan who sang the rest of the song came and sat next to me, I couldn't hum it in a single breath as the music composer had wanted. Dasettan then called the composer and told him it was humanely impossible to do so. That's how the music composer changed it to the way it is sung today,' he said. Venugopal added, that was the only track he has sung in his career. “I was just turning 24 then!,” said the singer who crooned 'Onnam Ragam Paadi' in the movie.
