A dream debut

I consider myself fortunate to have had the opportunity to sing in a film like 'KGF2'. This is also my first mainstream film, thanks to my friend music director Sam Simon George. They were looking for a Malayali singer for the songs composed by Ravi Basrur. That’s when Sam told me to send some voice samples. I send across a melody from 'KGF1'. It was approved by Ravi sir who called and told me I was on board. The very next day, I went to Mangalore and recorded the song at Ravi sir’s studio. Sudhanshu Rao had also sung some portions along with Ravi sir. I was over the moon when Ravi sir complimented me.

When an Engineer became a singer

I am an engineer and I have worked in a company for a brief period. But since singing was always my passion, I decided to concentrate on this field. I started learning Carnatic music from the age of six and have also trained Hindustani under Ustad Fayaz Khan. The learning is still on. During my school-college days, I used to regularly participate in youth festivals. Along with my friends, I have done a music album called ‘Engo Maranju.’ I like to sing all kinds of songs. But I am told by my listeners that they love to listen to my melodies.

My family is very supportive

My family consists of my husband Arun Augustine and our 6-month-old baby Adleen. Our ancestral home is at Poovarani at Pala. I am grateful for the support I get from my family. Even my 103-year-old grandmom is a fan. My in-laws are also hugely supportive.

Happy with the reception

It gives me such joy to see my song ‘Gaganam neeye’ trending on YouTube. Everything looks like a dream. I am even getting calls from people who don’t even know me. There were some messages that had me in tears and they were from people who know how much I love music. Such words are always a big source of encouragement.

My gurus

I am a fan of Janaki amma and Latha ji and consider them as my gurus. I am also very fond of Chithra chechi and coincidently I have mostly sung her songs. I love AR Rahman songs and he is a huge source of inspiration.
