KS Chitra walks away with yet another award, beats Janaki's record

Chitra got the award for her soulful rendition of the song Gopikamma in the Telugu film Mukunda.

Malayalam's favorite singer KS Chitra now has one one more record to her credit.

Chitra has won the Nandi Award (Andhra Pradesh State Film Awards) for the best female singer - and that too for the 11th time. While notching up the award, Chitra has surpassed renowned singer S. Janaki's record of winning the prize 10 times.

Chitra got the award for her soulful rendition of the song Gopikamma in the Telugu film Mukunda.

She first won the Nandi Award for best female playback singer in 1990 for 'Kaliki Chilaka in Seetharamaiah Gari Manavaralu. From then on till 1999, she has won several Nandi Awards, except in 1994 and 1995.

The singer, who has bagged a good number of awards in various languages, had also won the best playback singer award of the Kerala government for the song Nadavathil Thurannilla in the movie Kambhoji in 2016.
