Medulla Oblankatta: A hit on the head!

Poster of film Medulla Oblongata

Make sure to fortify your brain with enough exercise well in advance, so that you stay on your guard after watching “Medulla Oblankatta”. The movie implicitly discusses the trauma of a temporary memory loss associated with an unexpected hit on the Medulla Oblongata. Unfortunately, the two sets of monologues relentlessly repeated by the protagonist after the mishap, put the normal functioning of a watcher's Medulla Oblongata at stake.

In fact the spark of the plot is drawn from a true-life incident. The story is a series of incidents that occur after the hero is hit badly on the back of his head during a cricket match, a day before his wedding. Though the movie as a whole is ill furnished, the unconditional love and patience in a true friendship has a prominent presence through the length of the movie.

The title song is picturised quite interestingly, describing characters of a four-member buddy gang. The characters of a typical potpourri of a hero, who grabs the prime focus; an 'impulsive' nerd, who puts everyone into trouble, a sensitive and an empathetic who takes all troubles and the most inevitable; the joker of the gang, are donned by Rahul Madhav, Saiju Kurup, Arjun Nandakumar and Rakendu Kumar respectively.

The female actors in the movie have a below par presence with their insensible make-up and straight faces.

The movie is the first directorial venture of Suresh Nair who is an actor. The screenplay is also handled by him but unfortunately it did turn out to be an unrewarding fare.

The movie is the remake of a Tamil film, ''Naduvule Konjam Paakkathe Kanom'' starring Vijay Sethupathy and Gayathrie Shankar.
