Veteran director Shajoon Kariyal whose film 'Mrudhu Bhave Dhruda Kruthye' hit theatres recently, said the item song 'Fanaa' featuring Sunny Leone was not part of the movie initially. The decision to include the dance number was taken only at a later stage by the film producer Dr Vijayshanker Menon who bankrolled the movie.
“I was approached by Dr Vijayashanker to helm the film. Since the second half of the film was based in Mumbai, he wanted a song that could establish a Mumbai connection. The decision to do so was taken at a later stage,” he said. According to him, the producer, who also co-wrote the script, set aside a separate budget for the song. So, how did Sunny Leone get on board the project? “The producer's son was an acquaintance of Sunny Leone's manager and that is how the actor got on board the film. The rest of the cast are new actors,” Shajoon said.
According to Shajoon, who has previously filmed movies like 'Sir C P', 'Chettayees' and the 1996 film 'Rajaputhran', he decided to do 'Mrudhu Bhave Dhruda Kruthye' because the entire cast was new. “After Sir C P, I was waiting for a movie that would resonate with today's youngsters and was part of the new trend. I was hesitant to take up 'Mrudhu Bhave Dhruda Kruthye' for this very reason initially, since it is a family drama. However, I was drawn to the film because it required a bunch of new faces,” he said.
Shajoon said the hero in the film is a character with three dimensions. “We decided to cast a new face for the role to make it more convincing. Some of the senior actors have portrayed these shades during their career, which would feel repetitive if we cast them,” he said.
So, why include a police motto as the movie title? “The character applies this motto to handle a situation in his life. We found this title apt for the film,” he said.
