Vijay refused to use body double for action scenes in 'Theri': Atlee

Chennai: Director Atlee, who awaits the release of Tamil actioner Theri, says he was stunned by the risk-taking ability of actor Vijay, who insisted on not using a body double for the stunt sequences in the film.

"The action scenes have come out very well. I was stunned by Vijay sir's decision to not use body doubles and take risks. I was in awe of his risk-taking ability," Atlee, who thoroughly enjoyed working with Vijay," told IANS.

The film marks the first time collaboration of Vijay and Atlee.

Although an action-entertainer at heart, the director says the film is about good parenting.

"Every crime involves emotions. I wanted to get to the bottom of it. It's all about good parenting. That's 'Theri'," he said, adding Vijay fights for a very important social cause in the movie.

In the film, Vijay plays an upright police officer.

"What differentiates 'Theri' from other police stories is the solid, genuine emotional factor," he added.

Vijay will also be seen as a doting father. Child artiste Nainika plays his daughter.

"Nainika has performed on par with Vijay sir. Scenes between them will be fun and equally emotionally," he said.

Reacting to rumours about Theri 2, Atlee said he hasn't discussed about the same with Vijay.

"I have an idea but everything depends on how audiences will receive 'Theri'," he signed off.

The film also stars Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Amy Jackson.
