AK Sajan and Mammootty in the movie 'Puthiya Niyamam'

After making a mark with notable scripts likes Dhruvam, Butterflies, Crime File, Chinthamani Kolacase, AK Sajan made his directorial debut with Stop Violence. And now, with his latest directorial venture, Puthiya Niyamam hitting the screens on Friday, expectations are riding high.

Talking about the movie, AK Sajan says, Puthiya Niyamam has focused on familial relationships and can be categorized as a family thriller. Puthiya Niyamam revolves around the story of an inter-caste couple, Adv. Louis Pothan and Vasuki Iyer. Louis Pothan belongs to an orthodox Christian background and Vasuki is from a traditional Brahmin family.

The writer-director also revealed about his secret fear in a recent interview. According to Sajan, contrary to usual flicks, Puthiya Niyamam is centered around the heroine. When Sajan had approached Mammootty to brief him about the script, and also to tell him that Nayantara's role occupies more screen space, it was Mammootty who comforted him, stating that it did not bother him. On the other hand, Mammootty assured Sajan that he is doing the movie, as the script was extremely interesting. The character played by Nayantara is as equal and important as Mammootty's character Adv. Louis Pothan.

A still from the movie

Initially, AK Sajan had written the script with Renji Panicker in mind. When Sajan narrated the story to Renji, it was he who recommended the name of Mammootty, as Renji felt the character demanded a powerful actor like Mammootty. Later, Sajan narrated the script to Mammootty who immediately agreed to do the project.

The female lead role was initially offered to Muthumani and later given to Nayanthara. Director Sajan feels that no other actress can essay such a powerful role alongside Mammootty. Nayantara is the only leading lady who can hold her own against Mammootty, be it acting or good looks.
