Kochi: Aimed at sensitizing the society on the need to extend a helping hand to rape victims and assisting them to overcome trauma, a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) has come out with a short film, ‘Freedom from Fear’.
The short film by Bodhini,an NGO, featuring actress Manju Warrier, is the third in a series of short films directed by Shyamaprasad on various issues.
The story deals with how a bank employee, Ajitha, is trying to come in terms with her past and how her bank manager supports her to stand up for herself.
According to Bodhini, the taboo of rape and abuse prevents victims from speaking out and they end up living with trauma and fear.
This is used by predators to further threaten them.
The society also does not extend support to the victims. The short film, which has been released on Youtube, aims to change the society’s approach towards rape victims.
The earlier short films released by Bodhini and directed by Shyamaprasad were 'Online Predators' and 'Road Trip to Hell' .
Online Predators features actress Parvathy and it has bagged 23 lakh hits on the YouTube so far. 'Road to Hell', presented and narrated by Prithviraj, dealt with the issue of narcotic abuse.
