The 40th Kerala Film Critics Awards were declared on Monday where Mohanlal got the best actor (male) award for his role in Oppam and Nayanthara won the best actor (female) award for her performance in the film Puthiya Niyamam.
While Oppam was adjudged the best film of 2016, Priyadarshan got the best director award for the movie.
Actors Nivin Pauly, Tini Tom, Samuthirakkani and Lakshmi Gopalaswamy won special jury award for Action Hero Biju, Daffedar, Oppam and Kamboji, respectively.
Veteran filmmaker Adoor Gopalakrishnan has been selected for the Ruby Jubilee award, and directors Sreekumaran Thampi, Fazil, cinematographer K. Ramachandra Babu and actor Shanthi Krishna were selected for the Chalachitra Ratnam awards for their lifetime contributions to the Malayalam film industry. The other major awards are listed below:

Second best actor(male): Renji Pancker (Jacobinte Swargarajyam) and Siddique for Sukhamayirikkatte
Second best actor(female): Surabhi (Minnaminungu)
Best child artiste: Baby Esther Anil and Baby Akshara
Best scriptwriter: Vineeth Sreenivasan (Jacobinte Swargarajyam)
Best music director: M Jayachandran (Kamboji)
Best lyricist: Vayalar Sarath Chandra Varma (Kochavva Paulo Ayyappa Coelho)
Best singer (male): Madhu balakrishnan
Best singer (female): Varsha Vinu and Alka Ajith
Best cinematographer: Sujith Vaassudev (James And Alice)
Kerala Film Critics Association president Thekkinkad Joseph and general secretary Balan Thirumala announced at a press conference and the organizers were yet to decide on the date of the award ceremony.
