He doesn’t let anyone get close: Sonu Nigam on AR Rahman

Sonu Nigam recently shared his thoughts on the enigmatic personality of Oscar-winning composer AR Rahman, with whom he has collaborated on numerous iconic Bollywood tracks. According to Sonu, Rahman is not particularly known for his sociability or friendliness, choosing instead to immerse himself deeply in his work.

"He doesn't have relationships. He's not the kind of person who engages with others in that way. He doesn’t open up to anyone. At least, I’ve never witnessed that," Sonu revealed. He added that Rahman might open up to long-time friends who know him as Dileep, but this level of intimacy is rare. "He’s not someone you’ll find having friendships or relationships. He’s just absorbed in his music," Sonu said about the renowned composer.

Further elaborating on Rahman's personality, Sonu mentioned that AR Rahman doesn't engage in gossip or speak ill of anyone. "He focuses solely on his work and his prayers. He doesn’t hurt anyone’s feelings or talk negatively about anyone," Sonu shared. He noted that Rahman remains detached from much of the world outside his family, emphasizing that he doesn’t open up to people easily.

Recalling an experience during a tour in the US, Sonu remarked that Rahman doesn’t participate in small talk, and this is not something that can be considered a flaw. "He doesn’t know how to gossip. And that’s not a drawback; it’s just who he is. He doesn’t want to know anything about me or anyone else, and he doesn’t want anyone to know about him either. He is a unique individual," Sonu concluded.
