Suriya-starrer 'Kanguva', which hit theatres towards the fag end of 2024, has made it to the Oscars nominees list for Best Picture category. The film along with Blessy's magnum opus 'Aadujeevitham' has also been shortlisted in the same category along with critically-acclaimed Netflix movie 'Girls Will Be Girls'.

The voting for the nominees will begin on January 8 and the final list will be announced on January 17. Though Kiran Rao's 'Laapataa Ladies' was India's official entry to the Oscars, the film, which revolved around two newly married women who were swapped in a train, failed to enter the race for the Academy Awards. Payal Kapadia who helmed 'All We Imagine As Light', which won the Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival, has already been shortlisted in the Best Director category.

Meanwhile, 'Aadujeevitham' has been nominated for Outstanding Achievement in Sound Editing – Feature International at the 72nd Annual Motion Picture Sound Editors (MPSE) Golden Reel Awards. 'The Goat Life' is the only Indian film recognized in this category this year. 'The Goat Life' is a gripping drama based on the acclaimed 2008 novel 'Aadujeevitham' by Benyamin. Directed by Blessy, the film stars Prithviraj Sukumaran in the lead role, portraying Najeeb Muhammad, a man from Kerala who travels to Saudi Arabia in 1991 seeking better opportunities for his family. Instead of finding the promised employment, Najeeb is deceived by an individual posing as his employer and is forced to work under harsh conditions on a goat farm in the desert.
