Los Angeles: Actor Priyanka Chopra Jonas and her husband Nick Jonas announced on their Instagram pages on Friday that they welcomed their first child together.
Priyanka said a surrogate gave birth to the couple's baby on January 15.
"We are overjoyed to confirm that we have welcomed a baby via surrogate," the couple's statement said.
The couple did not reveal their baby's name or sex and asked for privacy "during this special time as we focus on our family."
Earlier this month, talking about plans of starting a family and having children, Priyanka Chopra told Vanity Fair magazine in an interview, "They're a big part of our desire for the future. By God's grace, when it happens, it happens." Both Nick and Priyanka lead busy lives, when pointed to that, PeeCee gives fun reply saying, "No, we're not too busy to practice," she says.
She even clarified that the couple is ready to slow down when a child enters their lives. "I'm okay with that. We're both okay with that," she said.
In 2018, the couple married in India after dating for four months. The three-day wedding celebration had both Christian and Hindu marriage traditions at Umaid Bhawan Palace in Rajasthan.
Soon after the announcemnt, several celebs congratulated the actress in the comments section of the post. Huma Qureshi wrote, "This is amazing! @priyankachopra Congratulations @nickjonas."
Pooja Hegde wrote, "Congratulations 🤗 Sending you all loads of love and light!❤️", while Lara Dutta commented, "Congratulations!!! ❤️❤️."
On the work front, Priyanka will be seen in Zoya Akhtar production with Katrina Kaif and Alia Bhatt in Jee Le Zaraa. It is slated to release in 2023.
She was last seen on the big screen in Hollywood film "The Matrix Resurrections", which opened in cinemas worldwide in December 2021.
Her upcoming slate of films include Jim Strouse-directed rom-com "Text For You", Amazon thriller series "Citadel", produced by Russo Brothers,"Sangeet", an unscripted series co-produced with her husband. She will also produce a film with Amazon Studios on the life of Ma Anand Sheela, the former aide to late godman Osho Rajneesh.
