The much debated biopic based on Indian Prime Minister PM Narendra Modi, will not hit the screens on Friday.
The producer of the film, Sandip Singh, himself confirmed the news on Twitter and wrote, “This is to confirm, our film 'PM Narendra Modi' is not releasing on 5th April. Will update soon.”
Another tweet from ANI quoted Omung Kumar as, “Suspense! The film isn't releasing tomorrow, not on 5 April. But it'll be done soon, you'll get to know. We don't want to tell you the date now. Opposition had come forward, tried things. It's late but we know what date to release it on.”
Earlier, the film starring Vivek Oberoi in the titular role, was supposed to release on April 15 which was later pre-poned to April 5.
Producer Sandip Ssingh had then stated that they pre-poned the film a week early on public demand. “There is a lot of love and anticipation among the people and we don’t want them to wait longer. This is a story of 1.3 billion people and I can’t wait to show it to them,” he had said.
However, there is no information from the makers as to why the film's release was delayed suddenly.
Reportedly, the film is yet to get a nod from the Central Board of Film Certification.
Meanwhile, the Election Commission (EC) will on Friday decide the fate of the biopic on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which, the opposition has alleged, violated the model code of conduct, the poll panel said on Thursday.
The Congress had earlier urged the EC to stop the release of "PM Narendra Modi", a biopic based on the life of the Prime Minister, stating that it violated the model code of conduct by promoting the Prime Minister's story and trying to cash in on his reach.
The film, directed by Omung Kumar, narrates the story of Modi from his humble beginnings to becoming the Prime Minister. Actor Vivek Oberoi plays Modi in the film.
