The multilingual movie 'Yatra' is gearing up for release. Directed by Mahi Raghav, the film revolves around late political leader Y S Rajasekhara Reddy’s walkathon across undivided Andhra Pradesh in 2003.
With 'Yatra', megastar Mammootty marks his return to Tollywood after a hiatus. Not just that, the film also marks his reunion with actress Suhasini, who essays the role of a minister in the YSR government. The duo had delivered some of the biggest hits in Malayalam and fans can't really get over the chemistry that the duo shared onscreen.
Let's have a look at some of their top movies from the 80s:
Pranamam
The 1986 Malayalam film directed by Bharathan had Mammootty and Suhasini in the lead, playing a police officer and journalist respectively. The very first meeting scene of the movie is a delight to watch as Prathapan (Mammootty) introduces himself to Usha (Suhasini) recollecting their good old childhood days. Although a tragic climax awaits them, it is amusing to see how the duo develop a bond for each other.
Rakkuyilin Ragasadassil
More than the 1986 movie directed by Priyadarshan, the film is still vivid in the hearts of movie buffs for its hit numbers. The evergreen song 'Poomukha Vathilkkal..' reminds how best Viswanathan and Janani played by Mammootty and Suhasini respectively brought alive the indifferent couples together.
Koodevide
The 1983 Padmarajan film generated both empathy and sympathy for the protagonists Captain Thomas and Alice. The much-in-love-yet-to-get-married couple's life takes a bitter turn when a student enters the life of Alice. Interestingly, the film marked the debut of actor Rahman who played the role of the student. The heart-breaking ending of the movie makes one root for the star pair for more from them.
Ente Upasana
Written by Thoppil Bhasi and directed by Bharathan, the 1984 film is based on the award-winning novel 'Upasana' by Mallika Yunis.
The warm friendship between Arjunan (Mammootty) and Lathika (Suhasini) turns into hostility and then to reconciliation. Both Mammootty and Suhasini manage to perfectly sync in with the characters and present a wonderful chemistry on screen.
Katha Ithuvare
The 1985 film directed by Joshiy had a big star cast including Mammootty, Suhasini, Baby Shalini, Lalu Alex, Rahman and Madhu. The yet another tragic family drama had Mammootty as Balan, a pilot, and Suhasini as Rekha, an air hostess, as the lead protagonists. They get separated in the course of time. While we realise that the duo are on the verge of reunion, the film ends by taking the life of one of them and we are left with grief.
