#MeToo a fad, it will fade out soon: Mohanlal

Dubai: Mohanlal, actor and the president of Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA), on Monday stated that #MeToo campaign is not a concern for Malayalam film industry.

He was addressing a press conference in Dubai to announce his charity fund-raiser Onnanu Nammal which will be held on December 7.

“There’s no big problem in the Malayalam industry. In fact #MeToo is turning into something of a fashion. Anything like that will have a life span for a bit and will soon disappear,” the veteran actor said.

“Sexual misconduct can happen anywhere in life not just in film industry. Honestly, I cannot make a comment on #MeToo. You can talk about it only when you experience it. Otherwise, there is no point in commenting,” he added.

Earlier, the names of a couple of Malayalam film actors were mentioned in the #MeToo drive. Casting director Tess Joseph had claimed Malayalam actor and CPI (M) MLA Mukesh Kumar tried to harass her. Actor Alencier Ley Lopez was named by his co-star Divya Gopinath for harassing her a few times on the sets of the movie.

Meanwhile, the amount collected from the fund-raiser will go towards the rehabilitation of Kerala flood survivors. About 50 stars from the Malayalam movie industry are expected to participate in the five-hour show.

On a question if Dileep will be part of the mega event, Mohanlal said, "If he wants to, he can. But since he is no more a member of the association, there is a question mark.”

Mohanlal also revealed that the association has plans of doing another big show in March in Kerala.
