TV star Hima Shankar opens up about her true persona

Television star Hima Sankar, who charmed the audience with her endearing performances, has answered critics who claim she has a fake persona. On social media, Hima is however applauded for her brave and bold statements by many.

“I am an artist, who teaches people how to play with emotions. How can then I could be called as a fake person? Wherever I am, I don't want to lose my true personality.”

She added, “I used express my emotions openly from a young age itself. I have often been misunderstood because of that. After completing my graduation, I got interested in theatre and wanted to pursue my higher studies in it. My family was not initially happy with my choice. I did my post graduation at a college away from my home. It helped that I was never homesick.”

In this context the actress noted that she would build a home where she could freely express herself. The artiste revealed that she likes to spend her time in her room with a huge mirror. For Hima, a house is not just a concrete structure which has a few rooms.

However, it is a combination of different spaces which reflect the emotions of those who live in it. “If I have a house of my own in future, I wish to arrange such spaces in it. A space where I could laugh out loud, or where I could snuggle up and cry, and even a place where I could sit and ponder over things. I love mirrors; it in fact is the only thing which doesn’t laugh back when we look at it and cry. I would place mirrors in all the significant spaces in my house. Besides, I like open spaces which lets in lots of natural light and air, rather than closed and suffocating areas,” the actress opened up.

She doesn’t like huge luxurious homes, but prefers small dwellings. Hima, however, confessed that though she was born in a beautiful hamlet, she never liked her life to be limited to the ways of the village.

Talking about her personal interests, Hima said that she got a room of her own since she was just a 10 year old. “There was a huge mirror in that room, and that was my best friend during childhood. I have had lots of books and I love pets.”

“There is a small hill and also lush green fields near our house. I love to spend time alone near those fields and hill. I would watch the pristine water flowing through the small brook here, and carry my books to read in the tranquility of that area. These are my favorite pastimes since childhood,” recalled Hima.

The actress, who hails from Kodakara in Thrissur, grew up in a middle class family. She stayed with her mother and younger brother during childhood as her father was away with work. She did her post graduation in Theatre Arts from School of Drama and Fine Arts, Malappuram and started her career as a theatre artist in 2006. She has performed in several theatre plays. Some of her popular theatre plays are ‘Sakharam Binder’, ‘Women Without Men’, ‘The Valley Song’, ‘The Lesson’, ‘Oru Kathaanaadakam’, and many more.

She has acted in about 14 films in pivotal and minor roles. 'Seniors', 'Thalsamayam Oru Penkutty', 'Iyobinte Pusthakam', 'Ottakolam', 'Aaradi' and 'Himalayathile Kashmalanmar' are a few films to her credits. She was much noted after being a participant of 'Bigg Boss Malayalam'.

Hima has recently opened an art space, and hopes to turn it into a major center of art and artists. Hima believes that home is a destiny which would seek her when the time is right.
