Late actor Captain Raju was often called as the ‘handsome villain’ of Malayalam cinema. But even when he essayed villainous roles on screen, he was impeccably good at heart and shared a good relationship with his colleagues. The Malayali audience realised the Captain’s remarkable humour sense when he was seen regularly in some of the popular TV shows.

In one of the episodes of ‘Cinema Chirima’ aired on Mazhavil Manorama, the actor revealed, “I am sad that I never got the chance to court someone.” He said that his mother, a teacher, was very strict at home and raised her three sons with ‘military’ discipline. “Life in the army was not a big problem for me, but the one with my mother indeed was. She wouldn’t allow us to talk to girls. We lived in fear of her,” the actor revealed.

“Mother was really tough. She would hit us for everything. If we drop a grain of rice while eating, she would hit us and order us to pick up that rice and put in back on plate. She would then remind us that we are the children of a poor school teacher. I never got the chance to court someone as I was raised with such strict discipline,” narrated the actor.

However, Raju’s father who was a school headmaster was friendly with his children.

The actor had said that, as a youngster, he often imagined a beautiful woman whenever he heard romantic songs like ‘Ente swapnathin thamarapoykayil vannirangiya roopavathy’. He, however, recalled with regret that though he had romantic desires, he never really got the chance to fall for someone.

He even playfully declared in the interview that he would love someone from as early as class 7 onwards, if he is born again. “My parents have 7 children. So in my next birth I too will have 7 children,” Raju had said.
